The Art of Recovery

February 21, 2009 by Georgeous

The art of recovery is not to feel too sorry for ones self.

I went to the V. E. T on Friday and he seemed quite pleased with how my paw pad is healing.

He removed the bandage and told Edwood that I only need to wear a sock for the next 10 days (no walks).

Edwood & Sophie went out and left me at home alone whilst they walked some doggies and when they returned they found I had been very curious about my wound and had licked the sock to soppy.

Edwood had to go to the studio and when Pooky came home she found me in the crate with THE BUSTER COLLAR on. It is so big she had a job getting me out of the crate. She warned me that if I lick the socky then I have to wear the collar.

Warning taken, I slept the night without touching socky.

Life is a bit boring without exercise and checking the peemail but Pooky has been home today and she’s put animal programs on for me to watch, there’s only so much meditating a young man of my stature can take.

Sophie my sister has been very good and has helped me rest. Mind you she’s been playing with the customers Dad’s walking and I think she’s been a bit too tired to try and get me to play, but hey, we’ll let the hoomans think she’s actually got a brain and knows I’m out of action.

Early this afternoon there was a knock on the front door and to my surprise Faya and Asta had turned up to relieve Pooky & Sophie of their nursing duties.

Pooky showed them my stitches, which pooky says look like some kind of heavy duty cord. I’m not sure where the ones at the top are and Pooky and the girls were a little too squeemish to have a real good look.

And then she showed them how to fold a clean sock. I of course didn’t flinch at all and was very proud.

Gosh I’m so happy that the gals have come to visit. . . and I can laugh at myself in a pink tipped socky.

Thank you Asta and Faya for coming over to help. If you get a minute pop by Asta’s blog as she’s real busy organising more healing for her buddies.

George, that is great news…we know that you are concentrating on doing what the nursing staff tells you and want to heal quickly.

You are obviously being a model patient George and to have such pretty nurses care for you is certainly a bonus.

Make the most of putting your paws up as we are sure Sophie will be chasing you once you are up and about again.

Those are some serious stitches! I’ve been stitched up several times but never with anything as heavy-duty as that!

The sockie is so much better than the stoopid lampshade, isn’t it, George?! Mom gave me that very same ultimatum – the lampshade or the sockie! Hey, we’re not dumb!
We’re so glad your booboo is better!

Oh, poor George!!! That looks like it hurt a LOT, and you were so brave about it!
You still look gorgeous, even with that sock on. Maybe you can appeal to the sympathies of your mom and dad and get some extra snacks and snuggles while you are healing. Just a thought.

I hope your wound heals quickly! Joe (our resident Rottie) had a deep cut in his paw sometime ago that required stitches … he was in his lampshade collar for a while …
